    Hi.
I am living out of a bag so most of the time in the Hotels. I have used this site for many years now and have not had any trouble downloading files. Now i got an issue the the firewall used in the Hotel network dosent allow me to download exe files. Most files i need to use for updates and not only from this site are mostly all in exe type
Is there a way around this or do you have the files also in compressed type as it seam i have no problem with zip or rar files.

    Thanks. Finn

I've moved your thread to software as this is not a Networking issue. Hopefully, you'll get some help.

Shot in the dark here,,,, Can you possibly rename the download (prior to the actual download) from EXAMPLE.EXE to EXAMPLE.TXT? Then once downloaded, rename it back to an exe file before running it. ie; On a download confirmation box.

You failed to mention what version of windows is on your computer and what browser (as well as version) you are trying to download from.

Did you get an error, a 0kb download or a message "this page can't be displayed" when trying to download? Have you tried IE 9 to see if that works? If IE 9 doesn't work, then we need to see what processes are running that might be preventing you from downloading things.

Also in FF, you might try disabling all your addons and trying to download to see if one of the addons is interfering.

Have you tried a hotspot apart from the hotel? Do you have the same problem there?
(I'm trying to figure out if it is a computer problem because it doesn't seem like a hotel's firewall would prevent you from downloading something to your own computer.)

    Hi.

Yes i just remembered i had the hotspot on my iphone and it worked very nice, just by plugging in with USB and using my SIM card provider network. It is however very slow when using the hotspot. I am looking for a program where you can compress any exe files before download or maybe some thing i am doing wrong.
Here is a text i get in the browser when trying a random file. I am using Avira Antivirus 1012.

Never known a hotel to block .exe downloads?? From the little (5mins) I Googled, educational institutions have manged to prevent this. Not too sure though.

    Cheers..

No software like that. It begs the question, are you actually trying this from a hotel. :-D

I've never known hotels to block any content of any kind with their wireless networking and I've been homeless at one point living in them daily. This just doesn't make sense. Why would a hotel block an executable from downloading unless it had something malicious in it?

I don't use Avira but I remember reading about Web Guard blocking some downloads, although that was a while ago.
Does your version of Avira have Web Guard and if it does did you try disabling it? You must be downloading from a reputable source like MajorGeeks when you try this of course
