can't download

no matter what i try i can't download anything it doesn't go to another screen or anything it just clicks and thats it. i've tried shutting off my firewall, my popup blocker and my virus scanner nothing works don't know if i'm just stupid or what my norton says there are no viruses on my puter and i upgrade regularly the only thing i can think to do is just to reinstall windows but i want this to be last resort. help please

 

Try these 2 little utils: Dial-A-Fix and IEFix - both are free downloads available right here from 'the Geeks'. In Dial-A-Fix, check the boxes for Windows Update and everything in the 'Registration Center'. It's impossible to hurt anything w/ Dial-A-Fix so don't worry.... If these things don't work, uninstall IE7 (if you're using IE7). I've had several PC's with numerous download problems with IE7; as soon as I removed it everything was fine. Also, try a different browser and see what happens. FireFox, Opera, Avant, and PhaseOut are all great and free downloads in the Browser section. If none of the above work, try a System Restore to right before the problem started. Reloading WinXP is a last resort (IMO).... good luck!

BTW- For best results w/ IEFix, have your WinXP CD in the drive and 'point' IEFix to the i386 folder.

 

i did start having problems as soon as i installed ie7 i tried to get firefox but i can't seem to get the puter to download the program, hopefully i can download the program you suggested.

 

Start IE and go to

Tools > Internet options > Security > Custom settings > Downloads

Make sure the Enable box is checked for files and anything else you want to download.

Keep the setting for automatic prompt for downloads at Disable.
