Can't Even Start Read This And Run First

    Hey guys! I have another friend's laptop with issues...runs really slow. I started with read this and run first. I can't even get adwcleaner to download. It tries to resolve host, establish secure connection...on and on. I have removed McAfee antivirus from this machine and that by itself sped things up, which I expected.

    If I can't get started with adwcleaner, where do I go?

    As I read through the read this and run first post, the screenshots for Rogue Killer are showing as not available. I don't know if that's because of issues on this machine or if it's something on the site.

    Need some help please!

    My first suggestion would be to try safe mode......if you still have issues with that, download the programs to another computer and transfer over via thumb drive.

    Hey Tim, it's been a while. I haven't had a friend with a bad machine in a while. I finally downloaded all the programs onto another drive. Running scans now. I'll post logs when they get done.

    Your rk log is actually the MBAM log. I still would like to see the RogueKiller log. Otherwise, I am not seeing any malware.

    Tim, after I ran that last round of scans, I did started some major updates on windows. This machine hadn't been updated in forever. Ran RK again and came up clean. Not sure why adware didn't download. Getting rid of McAfee seems to have provided a tremendous speed boost.

    I appreciate you taking a look. If you don't see anything else, I'll put it back to normal.

    Good to know.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    3. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have re-enabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    4. Now go to the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 or 10 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    5. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    6. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
