    I have a WD 120GB SATA 8MB c
    and a Maxtor 80GB SATA *MB c

My computer recognizes both and sees them and can read them. however I can only get the num1 WD 120MB to show up in my my compter / explorer windows.

Any help / simple "duh why didn't I think of that" ideas?

It's already set as a slave...since it's SATA it doesn't require jumper settings.
It's NOT on a RAID controller...I have two more spots for that.

Please help I'm just really getting into all the reall technical stuff as far as comps..thanks

Did you format the second one? You'll need to format and assign it a drive letter before it will show up in my computer.

If you're using 2000/XP, you can right click on my computer, select manage, go to "disk management" from that screen you should be able to see the HD (if it's installed correctly). right click on it and activate it, then format it with a drive letter and you'll be good to go.

What is the OS? If it is XP, even if the new drive was not FDISK'ed (partitioned) and/or formatted, it'd have still seen it but in DISK MANAGEMENT console: START > RUN > diskmgmt.msc > OK

So open the Disk Management console and check to see if the drive is visible there, if not the related port/channel might not be enabled in BIOS but since you said system sees it I am assuming that is not the case. If Disk Management displays the drive then as Coco stated as well, the disk needs to be partitioned and then formatted.

Yes, SATA drives do not use jumpers in the back.

Well I couldn't stick around for the formatting but I think I solved the problem. It wasn't formatted, etc...

thanks for the info..simple and obvious..I got a lot to learn.
