can't find sound device

I was running Windows 7 RC. Things were good. Got a notice that I only had 3 hours left. I loaded my copy of Vista and also Ubuntu. Vista can not find my sound device (sound Blaster) while in Ubuntu the sound is fine. When I try to load a new driver for sound blaster I am told that I can't because Vista can not find the hardware, yet the same sound card is working in Ubuntu. What am I missing?

 

First thing I'd check is to make sure vista isn't running on board sound as the default audio device so go into BIOS and disable any on board sound then restart the computer and see if the sound card is detected,also try a different PCI slot just for kicks.

Now double check you have the RIGHT driver this is the most common cause for not finding the hardware now check the sound card is picked up by windows by looking for it in control panel/device manager,it should have a yellow question or exclamation mark next to it.

If you are sure you have the right driver you can install the driver by entering the properties of the sound card in device manager.

Thanks for the input. However there is no place to disable the sound in the bios. I will try changing the slot in the am.
