Hey guys! I have a Windows 10 machine running a RAID 10. I have a folder I'm trying to get to with several gigs of data showing in it, but it just stops and won't open. I've got a screenshot of the path. Any way to get this to open?

    Thanks!

well, if windows won't let you open the folder, the easiest thing to try would be to boot your computer with a linux distribution. all linux distros can read the windows NTFS file system, very few can write to NTFS out of the box. you would also need a usb thumb drive, formatted as FAT32, that is large enough to hold all of those files. first, plug the usb thumb drive in, second, boot the computer with linux, and then just copy and paste all those files from your NTFS hard drive to the FAT32 thumb drive.
    linux mint cinnamon : https://linuxmint.com/download.php
is a good distro to use for this. lots of people seem to like it.
if you have never used linux, and want to try this, let us know if you have any difficulties. lots of people here use linux and can help you further. good luck with it.

Did you try to take ownership?

I'm sorry for the delay in responding to you guys. I had two medical emergencies Monday and I'm just getting caught up...one friend, one family. I'm not sure how to take ownership. I get around Windows ok, but I'm not the IT/admin type. I've always been more into hardware. This computer is 20 miles away from me, so I don't have it sitting in front of me every day. I should get back to it in the next few days. I usually get to that machine once or twice a week, which for me is a pain...it's where I do my photography.

Feel free to toss as much info at me as you can. I'll go prepared with what I need and give it a shot.

    Thanks,

    Ed

I got in, thank you for the help. It was actually folder after folder nested inside one another. I'm not sure how they got copied inside the same folder names time and time again. Some manual sorting is now required!

Not quite sure if you mean you now have multiple copies of the same files, but if so, make life easier for yourself by using a duplicate file finder and let it do the hard work. The one I use isn't listed here (I got it from the portableapps site)but I'm sure someone here can point you in the direction of a good one.

The one I use lets me choose to show the files of only one folder, which doesn't mean you won't find duplicates elsewhere on the drive. An example will make this clearer.

    C:\Photos\Photo_1
    C:\Photos\Photo_2
    C:\Photos\Photo_3
    C:\Photos\Photo_5
    C:\Photos\Photo_8

    C:\Photos\MyPhotos\Photo_6

Suppose photo 6 is a match for Photo_05 - if I choose 'show only files in MyPhotos' (and you can choose whether to include subfolders of 'MyPhotos' or not), then as long as I told the program to search the entire 'Photos' folder, it would list Photo_6 and Photo_5, and show their respective paths.

A decent duplicate file finding program is worth its weight in gold, when something has happened that caused mountains of copies.

Just be warned, I don't know about other programs but the one I use, you can mistakenly add the same folder twice, and it would then claim that EVERY file has at least one copy - even if there were none!!
