I had some virus/malware issues. I thought I had it solved but my firewall was not starting so.........

I tried to boot in Safe Mode so I can run ANTISpyware. I was pressing F-8 but I never got it to the safe mode. So......

I restarted and pressed the ESC key for the boot up (can't say if the esc key worked at that moment or if the computer just booted) and it went to a black screen with two choices....

    1. Launch startup repair and fix or
    2. Start Windows Normally. It says to use the arrow keys to select.

The thing is.... the arrow keys don't work. So it automatically chooses option 1. It then gives me and error messages that t won't run.

So I am stuck as to what to do!!??

    Please help.....

    Hi,
If I was you and if you have the abilty to do a clean install of windows i.e you have a copy of your OS install disc then that is what I would do, rather than having to mess around with fixes that may/may not work for you, especially if it is malware that is the root cause of it.

Does a clean install erase any files? Or does it just replace the system?

    Hi Rbaron,

A 'Clean install' removes everything. Be sure to save all your work and drivers before you do it. Sounds like you are using a USB Keyboard on an older Comp. If so you will need a Old fashioned Keyboard, not USB, or it cannot work until the OS gets started. Same for USB Mouse.

    Good Luck, Jim

    Jim,

Here is what I did....... A few months before this issue I created "Restore Disks" I think you can only create one set.

Anyway, I put in Disk 1 of the set and restarted my machine. One of the choices was to restore to a previous state and it showed a few restore points.

I picked one, did the restore thing, and all is good now.

    Thanks for responding..........

Now that it is working well, don't forget to create another restore date for today. This way if , let's say... in two weeks (or whatever) it fouls up again, you can restore it to today's status.:-D
