Can't get Hotmail or Gmail

My friend's laptop has lost the capability to link to her Hotmail or Gmail. She can link to the internet and also chat on a WWW-based link (not sure which one). She cannot remember doing anything out of the ordinary ... nor downloading any files.

I was able to link to my provider using the laptop and could not get to either of my Hotmail or Gmail accounts. Nor could i like to my Yahoo Photos account.

The problem exists in both IE and Firefox.

I would be grateful for any ideas about the likely cause and also how to correct the problem.

could it be the hosts file? but thats only for IE i think, dono why it wouldn't work with firefox. anyone else got any ideas?

It's more than likely something simple like a firewall, or the cookie being blocked, or similar.

 

Nope hosts file applies to any type of dns resolution ie any browser,
