Can't Get Ie To Work

IE won't work i get an error message

I'm getting an error message for IE and i can't get into it, the error is
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the
appropriate permissions to access the item." The only time i have ever seen
this error is when i try downloading software from the internet directly to the
E: Drive so i can burn it without saving it first to C:, anyway i tried
reinstalling IE 6.0 SP1 it didn't do anygood.

i have windows ME and it did work two days ago I exited out and then i tried to get back in and i got the error.

Try this:

Start, run:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -nohome

Does it open IE with a blank page?

If yes, try going to google.com.

It didn't do anygood. I don't think it is related to Spyware. Heres the error.

I have already tried these ideas but none work.

 

Try Safe Mode w/ Networking.

Does it at least open without that error?

ME doesn't have the option to do Safe Mode with Networking. But the about:blank to open. I also tried doing a clean boot. It worked so I think that there is some setting messed up in either System.ini, Win.ini, static VxDs, startup, Environment, International.

Oops, forgot this was Windows ME.

If a clean boot did works, I think you are right. I'll look through your HJT log, but in the meantime, start enabling things 1-2 at a time with msconfig and try to pinpoint the problem.

Why are you running Avast and AVG at the same time?

Not a particularly great idea.

 

O.K. i went to msconfig and unchecked each of the tabs first so i'm not going through each one. I found that it is in the Static VxDs tab, and i found what was causing me not to get on so i'm going to leave it unchecked the fwvrd.vxd wasn't letting me get on. IE works now.

 

Now i can't seem to download IE 6.0 SP1 because everytime i try to go to the site, IE gets an error and has to close. Also now everytime i boot up I get an error because it is not active. I use to have IE 6.0 SP1 but i uninstalled it to try and get it to work but now i can't get to the site.

 

I do have the IE 6.0 SP1 setup program but every time i run it i get the error below, when i run Spybot i do have the DSO exploit but i read that it is an error in the MS code or something.
