Can't get into harddrive

A friend brought his Dell Demention 2400 .He has done something to it. He told me that he unistalled some drivers but he doesn"t know what he unistalled I can't even install it as a slave in my pc.When you start the pc it goes through the Dell start up window.and will not start up windows.I have tried to do a repair with windows recovery disk and right before it starts to repair it goes to the blue window there is a stop error # I have google it and looked it up on M$'s and both say no matches.I have also tried a full install also the Blue window. I have installed a different harddrive in the dell and did a install and worked great,so I know it in the harddrive.
I put the harddrive in my PC as a slave started mine up and got a blue error window . The harddrives feels like it's running but acks like it's DEAD.
The error #s were differnt on my pc (as slave ) then when I had it the dell.
Any ideas, Did'nt want to give up till I asked here,can't stand it when I can't fix it

I just went to error log on my pc and there is errors that reads The device, \Device\Harddisk1\D, has a bad block. Thought this might help

Installing or uninstalling driver would not stop you from accessing the drive, either the drive is dead or you might check the pins where the ide cable plugs in. ed

 

tunered Thanks for the reply,I changed the cable in the dell , even used a different pin,on the harddrive.
