I have a friend of mine who is having some computer trouble right now.

Here is the problem, sorry if I am putting it in the wrong place. Just boot it somewhere else....(but let me know where it went)

All of a sudden my friends moniter just switches into stand by mode (yellow light) and she can no longer work on her computer.

When her moniter goes into this mode, she gets the words "no signal" written across her screen.
When her monitor goes off the red light that sometimes flickers on the tower is steady.
When her monitor goes the PC link light (on the modem) goes out as well.

She took the computer to her friends house and he gets it all hooked up and it works.

So she brings it back home, thought it might be a moniter problem, hooks up another moniter, same problem.

She called her ISP, and they said there is nothing wrong on their end.

Any idea what this could be...

    TIA

Hmmmm could be a driver problem. Has she tried updating/reinstalling drivers for video card?

No signal is the message you get if the monitor is not hooked to a computer, so , it would seem the problem is with the video card or onboard video. It could be a problem with the connection itself. For example, the plug on the video card could be damaged, or some of it's solder connections broken. Does wiggling the monitor cable at the video card do anything, such as causing flickering? That would be the first place I would look. If nothing shows up, then try deleting and reinstalling the video card.

also you get a no signal message if the settings on the video card are set to high and the monitor does not support them.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond.

I have told her all the information and we shall see.

If it works at the friends house, I see you never tried a different mouse or keyboard? Did the friend that checked it out use the same ones that she is using at her home? If not I would see if that is part of the problem here, Since its not just a monitor problem when you lose the modem as well here, does she have anything else that is plugged in more then when he was checking it out?.
