Can't get my labtop to reformat. little help please

Ok, I am not a noob but everything I learned I have learned on my own.
First, I have a compaq presario 2500 (yes, I know they suck)
A few day ago I downloaded a virus (Virtob.2.gen) off of torrent reactor
and it has block me from add and remove getting on the web and whole lot
of other things. I put it in safe mode to try to fix it but I couldn't so I did the
restart(boot) normally. So I am just going to reformat, So I put in the win xp
disc and hit setup.exe and it saids
"The window installer could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running in windows in safe
mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly
installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."

but if I put it in my pc and I don't even need to hit setup.exe before
it starts doing it things.

When your laptop first trys to boot, you should see some options at the bottom, boot device order is what we are looking for, hit your f key for that option[ maybe f8 or what ever it says] pick boot from cd-dvd drive, hit enter, be sure cd is in drive. ed

 

Like tunered said. You need to boot form the CD and you cant start the recovery form windows or it wont work because windows files are in use and it needs access to them.

 

Sorry I should of said I tried this, let tell you what I did...
for my lab you hit esc to bring up the boot menu I then pick
cd rom drive and hit enter it takes a little bit but it just loads windows.
I have even have gone under "set up utility" then boot and have
changed the boot order and collapse the removable devices and
hard drive and no go.

 

You say that it loads Windows, isnt that what you want? Maybe i dont understand what you are trying to do. ed

 

I want to start new with a clean slate.

 

When you boot from the cd, does it start loading files? Does it continue? This does take awhile to load. ed

 

I hit cd rom then it goes black with the short line flashing and then the windows
loading screen then black and starts up like normal.

 

My first guess would be that the cd is no good, or, when you choose to boot from cd in your setup screen, are you hitting enter on the keyboard? ed

 

Then you have corrupted CD.Find other bootable CD and try again.

 

humm...in the boot menu you use the up and down arrow buttons to
highlight and then I hit enter. Is that where I am f**king up?

 

And it's not the cd, it will start up on it's own when I put it in my home pc.

 

After you move the up-down and settle on cd-dvd, leave it high lighted and hit enter. The cd may auto run, meaning if you just stick it in a drive and it brings up a menu, that doesnt mean it will boot from the cd. ed

 

ok I highlighted cd rom hit enter and windows load and then I put in the
disc. Then the disc menu pop up. I have an instmsi.exe, instmsiw.exe and
setup.exe. I use the setup.exe right?

 

The cd needs to be in the drive BEFORE you hit enter, Put cd in drive and restart, at your screen hit your esc key, boot from cd, hit enter. It will say hit any key to boot from cd, hit any key, it will restart later and say the same thing, dont hit any keys when it comes on the screen the second time. ed
