Cant get my old Sidewinder to work

Ive been wanting to play some flight sim games lately ad decided to brush of the old SideWinder 3D Pro Plus but the drivers are for windows 95 and 98 only. Supposably sidewinder controllers are supported natively by XP but it doesnt detect it when i do what im supposed to; control panel->game controllers->add->microsoft sidewinder(auto detect) Any ideas?

 

Did you try your old windows 95 drivers for it?

yea i already tried the old 95 driver but it wont run ill try your in a few

I copied the following from a 4 year old thread.
Might help, worth a shot.

"I was able to have Windows XP recognize my MS Sidewinder 3D Pro...

Go into Control Panel
Click Switch to Classic View
Double click on Game Controller
Click Add
Find Microsoft Sidewinder (Auto Detect)
Click OK

Everything works for me. By the way, I don't know if this matters or not, I have the switch at the bottom on the "single dot" - can't remember if it means digital or analog (seems to remember somewhere someone says it only works in analog mode?! not sure though)

I calibrate the joystick and all the button works."

The thing to note I suppose is the switch analog vs. digital.

Ok i tried that and i guess i was just reading the error wrong. it says i need to configure my gameport and/or (re)install my gameport driver. I dont have a gameport driver on my mobo disk so i guess ill check the ASUS website. If anyone is bored and wants to help look, i have a P4P800-E Deluxe. Thanks for all the help
