The process of elimination. It probably is

    1) Your modem
    2) Your networking card
    3) Your OS

causing the problem. Have you been able to eliminate any of these as the problem?

Try shutting down the modem and comp, then reboot modem and let it get fully connected and then reboot the comp.

Or if the Connection needs some credentials.

Like MAC address or ID Password you might need to call the ISP.

Otherwise explain a little better the nature of the connection. :confused

does the connection icon show in the system tray (on the right, near the clock)? if it does, do the 2 little computers have black screens all the time? if they do, right click on the icon and click Enable or Repair (try Enable first).

if they don't show, click on Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. you should have an icon with 2 little computers, under LAN, that have grey screens or blue screens. if they're grey, right click on the icon, click Properties, click General tab, "check" the "show icon in notification area" box then click OK. while you're there, right click on that icon again and click on Enable or Repair or do it from the systray.

these instructions are based on my WinXP Home SP3 desktop; may be a little different if you're under another Windows operating system (98, Vista or 7).

    how about now?

you may try unplugging her cable modem for at least 10-15 seconds to reset it. either the power, ethernet cable or both. last thing is to contact her ISP to find out if they are working on any problems in the area.
