About a month ago my computer dind't start windows XP. It asked me to "press any key to reboot" then I pressed and the computer ran ok. Now I can't get pass the bios. When I power on the pc, one of my two cd drives keep blinking a light as if it was trying to read something. Both of them do this, but this one keeps doing that even inside the BIOS. And the BIOS Post-screen (I don't know if it's called like that) keeps there and the HDD keeps blinking, but that's it. The only thing I can do is to press the DEL key. And the BIOS can't find my HD!!!

So what can I possibly do now?...........

If bios don't detect the HD - it may be pooched. Diagnostics wont work without the drive being detected in BIOS so you cant test it - ie
    "Its dead Jim".
Boot a CD and see if the rest of the PC is ok... just 4 CYA purposes.

You might try and check your ide cables with another pair of ide cables just in case.

I've kept trying to run the computer and then I finally maneged to pass the BIOS post-screen, though I still don't know how. Then I ran fdisk and it only found one of my two drives, the one I din't have any problem with. I formatted and then both drives appeared. HOW CAN THAT BE POSSIBLE>?????.......

I think the problem has something to do with some .zip files that I have and can't delete in the disk I had problem with......
Thanks again for all the help......

You may have HDD craping out, sometimes before they go Poop, you would experiance the same problems you have.

    Keep important data backed up.

It's strange that such a new drive from seagate (5 years old) is going to die soon....

5yrs old, "LOL" I dont think I would fraz it as, "such a new drive"
I guess Warranty replacement is out of the Question!

Die soon, It's only a possibility, not Fact at least not yet yet, some folks get dead ones from the get go.

5 yrs, mind boggling the advancements in Technology since.

Ya might try running this, SeaTools a diagnostic utility for Seagates:
