Can't get rid of malware

Hi! I have done everything you guys recommended in the post about getting rid of viruses and such, yet I'm still getting weirdness in my Hijack This scan. When I delete things like this:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = <local>;localhost

They pop back on the next scan, sometimes as something different. The only running processes I don't recognize are C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdCtl.exe and
C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl\WinAdAlt.exe. They won't stay deleted with Hijack either.

I'm using Windows 2000 SP4 and Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1. When I ran all the stuff yesterday (because the system had slowed WAY down), I think there were 4 viruses found that Norton didn't catch before, but from what I can tell, they were all taken out. The comp is running faster now, but I would like to get rid of the rest of this junk in case it's malicious somehow.

That is because HijackThis does not delete these files. You need to do that yourself. Try looking for WinAd and other suspicious entries in Add or Remove Programs and Uninstall them that way.

Also, delete this folder: C:\Program Files\Windows AdControl

If you'd like, attach a log and somebody will take a look.

Note that your HijackThis should be up-to-date (v1.98.2) and MUST be extracted to its own safe folder - C:\Program Files\HijackThis!

Also note that, before you scan, you MUST close all running programs including your web browser, e-mail and items in the system tray.

Please save your HJT Log and attach it via the "Manage Attachments" tool in the Additional Options section when you post.
