I'm trying to add a HD to a Thinkcentre system. It's a Seagate Barracuda that's on the XP compatibility list. In fact, when I connected it, it showed up in Device Manager OK as operating properly and uninitiated. I then initiated it in Disk Management to Basic level. That's as far as I can get. It doesn't show up in the bios or in My Computer. I'd like to format it and get it up and running. What am I missing?

    Thanks.

BTW the Thinkcentre is the A50 and the Barracuda is the 7000.7

    Thanks

I am at a loss to the reason you cannot see it in BIOS but you were able to initiate the drive in Disk Management. Normally if the drive is not detected in the BIOS, you will not see it in Disk Management. If you have the drive in Disk Management can you right click and select Create Simple Volume?

What connection type? IDE? Is the jumper set correctly for the drive?
You said it does not shoe in BIOS?
Check Jumper, power cable and IDE cable.
Check Bios is set to auto detect.

What is the maximum size hard drive that Thinkcentre can take? A lot of older systems may not have a chipset that will accept large hard drives and if they don't, the drive may not show in the BIOS. If that system came originally with a 40gb or 80gb drive, the BIOS and motherboard chipset may not handle a large (500gb, 750gb, 1tb+) drive.

Hello. It turns out that the cable was bad. I hooked the new drive onto the connector where the old drive was (instead of another connector on the cable) and it worked fine.

    Thanks.
