I have a wireless computer upstairs and it connects to the internet through a wireless router downstairs. I need to network the two computers. I've done this maybe a thousand times on other computers, but I CANT get it to work on these two. Both running Win XP sp1. File and print sharing is on. Went through the windows networking wizard, choosed all options manuelly so I know I have the right ones selected. But, when I do a find computer on either one, they dont see each other. All firewalls are turned off.

    what am I missing?

Make sure your both in the same workgroup. Right click on my computer--> Properties--> Computer Name. Running the network setup wizard is not generally a good idea though sometimes it works. Manual setup is usually best.

Also, what brand router are you running?

on both computers go to the command prompt and type ipconfig and see if the settings match except for the IP address. if the settings match, tyr pinging each machine from the other and see what happens. At the command prompt type ping 192.168.1.xxx where xxx is the last part of the other machines ip address.
