can't get to boot normaly keeps going to scan disk

    Need advice : running xp home 512 ram 100 gig hd
    after the inital boot up the desktop loads and than goes into scan disk, and keeps looping in scan disk , shut down and hit F8 to go to safe mode and click start up with last good configuration , the same thing happens, can't get safe mode to start and restore to a earlier date keeps going to scan disk
