Hi all, each time i go into AdAware it says that i need to update - now 17 days in arrears! - when i try to update it loads 5% of the updates then i get the message "Error retrieving update". I have deleted the current AdAware programme twice and downloaded new but no joy there. This is the free edition.
I have Windows XP; and also, my computer is sooooo slow lately; i have done the delete files, delete cookies, clear history, defrag to no avail.
    Any help much appreciated, thanks.

i'm having the same problem today, not a malware problem as spysweeper, EMCO malware destroyer and my AV are all coming up clean. I'm also stuck on the 17 day old defs in AdAware

My updates are running smooth as usual ....have you tried running your virus scans or an online scan ....could be a nasty messing with you.

Bladesofhalo, thanks for the link but still would like to know why the automatic updates are playing up.

Ok, I'll take it back ...been running fine but now it won't load ....there is some mention of a new site so maybe it's the problem ...still checking...

Ok ....support forums and direct downloads from their site time out ....it's their problem.

Same here and saying my definitions are 16 days old, which I know full well they aren't as I update weekly.

EMCO and Spybot show clean. Avast is clean too.

Same as you mgpower0 with the first stuff, but i have deleted it okay. I will download Spybot for the moment and use that til AdAware hopefully sorts itself out or someone who is more experienced than i am in these things can help out - wouldn't take much, i am very inexperienced.

The latest Update from Lavasoft for Ad-Aware SE is SE1R12505.10.2006 it took me three tries but downloaded fine, went back to recheck and my update files are up to date. They have a new site so maybe there are some gremlins still lurking, like I said it took three tries then downloaded fine, but the first two returned the same that has been listed here. Hope that helps shine some light on it

Just a update on the update ran Ad-Aware prior to update "Clean" then after successful update and it showed "Softomat - Dataminer - HKEY_USER:S-1-5-21-64.... a Browser Hijacker....Revelance Low.. Average TAC 9.000

Just in case thought I had better let you know, lord only knows where I picked that one up ZA is up to date/AVG is as well, Spybuster needed updating,Advanced WindowsCare V2 is running as well as I only use FF other than MS updates, so how that sucker got through is beyond me, anyways a word to the wise.

Well, after several tries, it appears that I got it to update. I say appears because when I tried to update it again, it went back to the error message "error retrieving update". Then, after trying to update again, it finally indicated no updates available. I guess it's updated, but I'll try it again later to be sure.

Yea gang make sure you have this update in Ad-Aware SE, SER1R12505.10.2006 as Ad-Aware will give you a false read if you try to download the update again without closing Ad-Aware and restarting. Remember your malware is ONLY as good as your latest updates, and the nasties know it. Thanks augiedoggie

Are you sure it's not SE1R12506.10.2006? This is what I'm showing when it is indicating "no updated components available".

Just checked mine Jud149 and it is as written, but I wouldn't sweat it, for yours says the same thing. Are you running the Free SE version or the paid version?

  29. Jud149

It's the free version, BC. I don't understand why you are saying that mine says the same thing.

Okay Gang there seems to be some confusion, if you read the start of this thread you will see that some were having a problem yesterday downloading updates from Lavasoft for Ad-Aware SE, I managed to download versionSER1R12505.10.2006 in the wee hours of the morn, and ran it and found two nasties, and posted back here, to let the rest know.

Well since then Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE has indeed posted another update within hours of the first and it is SER1R12506.10.2006

This maybe why some were having a problem downloading the original update, I do not know. If you go to download from Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE and your version number is higher than posted here..........NO PROBLEM
