I've just installed "Vampire - The Masquerade - Bloodlines" on a computer running Vista. Got a message saying it didn't install properly and when I try to run it I get "Vampire.exe has stopped working."
"A problem caused the program to stop working" etc.
THe FAQ on the website say it should work with Vista.
    Any ideas?

Which compatibility modes have you tried?

I have no idea. I just tried installing it and running it and it didn't work. How do I change the compatibility mode?

Right-click on the exe file and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab you can pick which previous OS to run it in compatibility mode for--I'd suggest starting with XP and work your way backwards until you find one that works.

The exe file would be the shortcut on the desktop, right? Tried it with all possible compatibility modes with the same result.

Not quite right, but it still should have worked. Which patches do you have installed so far, and are you in 64-bit or 32-bit Vista?

Check out this thread, the fix presented there might work for your system.

Don't really know what's on this computer. It's a friend's. Is there some program I can use to find out?

Your system properties will tell you if you are running 64-bit or 32-bit. If you run 64-bit you will need to install to the Program Files (x86) folder, not to Program Files, or a lot of games won't run right.

    It's running a 32 bit.

I downloaded the patches in the fix you recommended and reinstalled the game four times with the same result.
When I clicked more information on the error message I got this
    C:\Users\bev\AppData\Local\Temp\WER251.tmp.version.txt
    C:\Users\bev\AppData\Local\Temp\WER17A6.tmp.appcompat.txt
    C:\Users\bev\AppData\Local\Temp\WER2260.tmp.mdmp

That is weird...! Give me a day or so to do some research and I'll get back to you on this. I have a Vista PC, and this game, and I'm pretty sure running into Nines Rodriguez again would be nice...

I'll get back to you. ;)

Thanks, I suppose it is possible that this computer doesn't have the system requirements. Do you know how I can find out?

If you don't know what's in it, try SystemRequirementsLabs, they can tell you. Just scroll down to your game in the menu and then run the scanner. :)

Hm, everything's fine except for the video card. That shouldn't stop it from running.

Well, technically it would, but not in the way you're describing. It would try to load and then crash with graphics errors.

I'm still doing research on my end. I'll let you know what I find out. :)

I have a similar problem. I installed the game from CDs, and downloaded the unofficial patch 6.0. I also changed the compatability (went down the line trying each one) and nothing worked. When I try to start it up (on Windows 98 and 95 compatability) I get the working symbol and then a quarter of my screen turns black with a white box saying "Look online for a solution" or "Close this program" (the online solution never turns up anything, it closes itself out)

The problem it says it has is this:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: vampire.exe
    Application Version: 0.0.0.0

    My Rig consists of:

    Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7300 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
    Memory: 4084MB RAM
    Hard Drive: 629 GB
Video Card: Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family
Sound Card: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Operating System: Windows Vistaâ„¢ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612)

Is there anything you can do to help?
