Can't install a USB-bridge driver after reinstalling XP

    Dear Geeks

I have tried to install a driver for a USB-Bridge link (similar to laplink, but manufactured by Prolific). The product is a bit of a nightmare and has many disgruntled users on various websites, but many also rave about it, so it has its followers too!

I need it to transfer files between my W2K laptop (on which it eventually installed) and my XP laptop (which refuses to recognise the driver files location. I have even stored the driver files in a folder on the desktop, to as to 'spare' XP the trouble of looking on the installation CD). I have found a distributor site which goes through the installation troubleshooting instructions:
    http://www.buslink.com/Trouble Shooting/FileTransferinXP.htm

which I followed religiously (that's how I got it to install on the W2K laptop!), but to no avail on the XP :(

I recently reinstalled the XP OS (but not overriding my data files). The reinstallation seems to cause some problems with subsequently installing some hardware (e.g. I could not set up a new internet connection until Adrynelyne helped me out with a tweak to the registry), which is apparently an official bug in XP. Could someone be so kind as to suggest a similar workaround or tweak so that I can get the USB-Bridge driver recognised and installed?

Many thanks to all who can help me out with this;) ;)
