    Hi first post on here.

Just installed Windows 2000 (service pack 4) on my Sony Vaio PCG-V505 laptop having used XP previously.

Tried installing the driver for the Radeon 9200 (ok do not laugh!) but it kept giving me an error - 'INF error. Video driver not found' and then it gave me another msg 'try with standard VGA driver'.

I tried to install the driver on the sony CD as well as the recent Catalyst update. Eventually found a 9200 driver for the video adapter somewhere in 2000 and installed this, now I have the ATI little icon at the bottom right and I seem in better shape. EVEREST tells me that AGP is disabled though. This is annoying, it worked fine with XP....and yeah I know my video card is not DirX 9 compatible but it WAS ok before.

Another problem I have is that although all the drivers I need are on the CD only the video driver and modem driver have install executables, the other stuff like soundcard I have not a clue how to install.

Dam that hard drive that failed with XP on it and curses that my 2nd recovery CD was scratched. This is why I have had to put 2000 on my machine! Thanks

Is this a Radeon 9200 Mobile? If so you can't use the Catalyst driver's from ATI, you have to get drivers from the laptop manufacturer (Sony Vaio in your case).

there is 2 ways to install yourd sound card :

first, you select update driver from system in other device by choosing file *.inf
second, you run normally that you select file setup.exe and run it

Ok thanks I got my sound card installed the manual way.

Tried to install the sony video driver (yeah it is a 9200 mobile) but I got the same message about INF error. Found a little thing called Dhmodtool2.2 which let me install the catalyst drivers (it alters something or other to let you use a mobile Radeon, no idea what). Ok everthing seemed ok, but I then discovered the AGP texture acceleration was not working, installed the system divice for AGP controller from my sony CD instead of a generic one PCI to PCI bride something or other (sorry I am not too clued up about this).

All seemed well then as dxdiag showed AGP texture acceleration enabled. However now when I run games the machine crashes after a few mins.

Also cannot access my bios setting when I boot. Was ok with XP.

    Thanks for the help.
