Having problems installing both of these. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

When I try and install Java, it comes up with an error 'another installation is already in progress' - and won't let me delete the incomplete version in add/remove programs.

With Silverlight, when I try and install it, it installs and then freezes at '92%'.

    I am running Windows XP.

try add/remove programs in safe mode of windows if not then download revo uninstaller to see if that will remove it for you.

    Welcome!

You must have already older version(s) of Java installed?

Remove these with JavaRa, the uninstall tool for old Java versions. http://majorgeeks.com/JavaRA_d5982.html

Then install the latest version. Hope the above helps.

I don't know anything about Silverlight.

    Restart Windows, then try again.

To me it looks like the topic was started today...?

pwillener, I was referring to the blog article link I posted not this thread. Normally I do not post solutions that are two years old because a lot changes in two years but someone asked for help with a similar issue on another forum and the link to that old blog was posted so I assumed that the advice was still applicable.

pwillener, no problem. I know English is not your native language and trying to understand me when you natively speak English, can be a chore at times. Just ask my husband; he'll verify this! :-D So, I was not offended that you did not understand what I was trying to say. ;)

Mr Tom, if you are still having problems, don't worry about installing Java. It has had a lot of attacks and might not even be necessary on your computer.
I've removed it from 4 of 5 windows partitions at home and I've disabled it in FF on the one windows computer it is still installed on.
