Can't Install Java

I've used Java succesfully under Win 2000, but now that I've switched to XP I can't seem to install it properly. I've run the installation .exe and Java appears in Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, but not in the Start/All Programs area nor does it work in either of my browsers (Firefox and IE). The browsers don't see that it was installed either. Applets don't run, but I can see the JavaScript Console. I have a project management program that requires Java and it will not run either. Help!!!

 

Go to control panel, double click java, the control panel should open, click java on top of panel, java application settings,[the bottom one] click view, see if check mark is enabled. ed

 

Yes but, that's the problem. It does not appear in CtlPanel!!!!! But it does in Add/Remove Programs!

 

is your xp new or used, i would try to unistall it then clean out your comp with disk cleaner and crap cleaner then reinstall it.

 

I just installed XP on a new hard drive so no crap present. I've also cleaned out all previous registry entries for java before the latest installation.

 

have you gone to the internet options on advanced ,do u see java in there might want to re click it and apply. see if that works.

 

Yes, no Java shown there.

 

might want to unistall java and firefox. then reinstall java first then firefox.clean it out first too.
