My mom just bought a laptop and she asked me to set the necessary programs for her. It comes with the basic crap Vista Sp1. Installing programs went fine at least most of it. Now I only need to install MS Office 2003; here comes the problem. Whenever I try to install, it will install halfway and then say

Please insert the disk: Microsoft Office 2003 Professional Edition.

I already tried to install it on 4 different ways. Wifi-Lan, Dvd-Drive, Usb Drive or copy pasted on the desktop but it all gave the same results. I have already attempted to install it more than 8 times and I've already spent around 5 hours with no luck on this slow OS.

It would probably easier to just install XP on this laptop but I don't want to risk not getting all the drivers.

    Assistance would be appreciated.

Is this an OEM version of Office or a retail version.
Are you logged on to vista as an administrator?
How are you trying to install it via WiFi or Usb?

This is a retail version. I already had it even before I had this laptop.

    I'm running as administrator.

The ways I tried to install it are as follow

    Wifi
    USB
    Lan cable
    DVD Drive
    Executed from my desktop

With Vista, merely being logged on administrator sometimes is not enough. "Run as administrator" involves an additional step. See this reference: http://vistasupport.mvps.org/run_as_administrator.htm. Might that Office 2003 disk be damaged? Can you try it on another computer?

Why would you try to install by those methods when you have the CD? I don't even know how you would do that.

Does that new laptop have a trial version of Office 2007 on it? If so, did you remove it?

I have full access as administrator. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to install lots of other programs.

The installation goes halfway so I can actually install that is until it gives me a crappy message. However, the same results occur no matter what method I do.

MS 2007 is already uninstalled beforehand.

Why would I try to install other than the CD? Because it gives the crappy error message

How I install it by other means?

I make a backup of the cd as an .iso stored on the computer

It installs on other desktops fine via Lan/CD/USB/run from Desktop installation. Yeah all those methods work fine.

Well cds can get damaged but there is no damage; besides I can use a backup .iso to burn a new one or just mount it. I do this for backup purposes(I don't duplicate the serial mind you)

Again, I already tried to install from the cd more than 6 times and the same message occurs.

I hope this answers your question.

Anyway, never mind about the problem since I've decided to just leave this software on my XP desktop. I'll just use Open Office.
