Can't install Microsoft Stuff?

To start, I'm Running Win 7 Pro 64bit, not gonna list the hardware as it doesn't apply to this.

I tried to install OpenOffice today and to my disgruntlement, I encountered several problems.

First it attempts to install Visual C++ 2008, ok no problem during the entire process until it tries to finalize the install then I get this error 1935. It ends the installation then rolls it back to remove Visual. Then it goes on to install OpenOffice, again the same exact error occurs right at the end of the installation. Error 1935. It gives information on some file VC90, and an HRESULT code.

At this point I assume I have a bad installation file. No problem download from a mirror and start over. Evidently it isn't the installation file. I get the same errors repeatedly. All with the exact same codes and file names.

So I do some research. Evidently it's a .net framework issue, but I can't seem to find a simple solution to my problem with good directions on what to mess with and not to mess with. All of the articles I've been reading or forum posts that the process the people are going through don't get completed.

At this point I decide to remove .net framework and reinstall, but I can't figure out how to reinstall, from where, or which version. I also do the same for Visual C++ directly from the microsoft site, but I end up with the same error again and no luck on the install. So now I don't have .net or Visual C++, or OpenOffice.

If anyone here can give me a hand I'd be ever so grateful.

BTW, I'm completely certain it isn't malware related.

I'm not sure what other info would be useful, but feel free to ask.

I can't install any of the .net stuff either. When I do I get a message saying I need to turn windows features on/off, but when I open the window to turn them on or off nothing shows up.

After doing some more research I found that .net 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 are built into win 7. Imbedded. So I may still have it in place.

Other articles I've read say there's issues with either Windows Installer, or Windows Module Installer. Module Installer I can turn on or off, but I can't do anything with Windows Installer.

I've even tried the sfc.exe/scannow fix, but it won't run at all for some reason I can't figure out. One gentleman even ran an Upgrade from his install disk to fix his issue, but I can't. After several attempts with the same results (copy windows files - at or near the end of the copying, which is the first step in the process once you get through the ULA and the checking for updates, it stops and says I have to restart and do it over) I realize this isn't going to work either.

Evidently there's an issue somewhere with a file associated to one of the installation programs that isn't working right or isn't backawards compatible or something. Whatever it is it isn't letting me install anything right now, to include MS products. At least anything that imbedds itself in Windows 7.

I have no clue what to do at this point other than a full reinstall which will mean I'll be spending the next several days installing all my stuff back. I've already had to do a full reinstall 3 times before I got a stable installation to begin with.

Ok, here's what I get when trying to install Visual C++ 2008 redistributable (which is required to install/use OpenOffice.org.

"Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC90.ATL,version="9.0.30729.1",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorAchitecture="amd64",type="win32"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT:0x8007002.

I also get the same message trying to install OpenOffice.org without installing Visual.
It seems there are several other MS programs that won't install.

I get that message when the installation gets to the "Publishing Program information" stage(finalizing the installation).

plodr gave the the link where you can reinstall .NET Framework.

Here is a tool to uninstall all versions of .NET Framework.

    http://majorgeeks.com/.NET_Framework_Cleanup_Tool_d6179.html

When reading the info in that link it says it's windows 7 compatible so I don't understand when you talk about this .NET being imbedded in windows 7?

After the uninstall, Windows Update should automatically appear to install the .NET Framework required on your machine.

Mind you, I have only XP Home but did use that uninstall tool recently and everything went smoothly, automatic update included.

If the above doesn't fix the problems with the OO download, then it must be something else. Hope it helps you.

EDIT: didn't see your last post. Therefore, perhaps my post could be ignored.

I already went that route. Had it run and remove everything it could find. Update had me reinstall .net 4. And that didn't fix anything that I can see.

When I attempt to install any .net stuff manually I get this message "You must use "Turn Windows features on or off" in the Control Panel to install or configure .NET Framework X"
(X being the version at the time)

When I go to the turn features on/off nothing shows in the window at all. I get a blank window.

    Hi

Are you logged in as the Administrator on your Windows 7 PC, not as a Basic User?

I would run the .Net Cleanup Tool again and run it as admin too (right click it and choose Run as Administrator, then once completed run CCleaner and its cleaner and registry tools (run the registry one until nothing lists for removal)

Make sure your Windows 7 is upto date, so goto Windows Update (just type Windows Update in the Start Search box), then reboot once any have installed.

Then in the Star Search box type Mscoree.dll does it list, if so then rigth click it and choose Open File Location then change its name to Mscoreebak.dll then maybe stop the Windows Installer service in Services (find this in Administrative Tools Services, or type Services into the Start Search box), may error if this service is stopped but do stop it to test, then you can start it again if the installers below error.

What Security applications do you have installed, please name them all? but disable them all and try to install say Visual C++ 2010 x64 and Visual C++ x86, .Net Framework 4.0

    Try installing Open Office again.

Do any of the above install OK?

*if with any of the above steps you hit an error please make a note of it in full and let us know what application the error went with.

It won't let me rename mscoree. Also I can't stop the Windows Installer service. Access is denied on both

I checked permissions on this file. The only listing that isn't read/execute only is "TrustedInstaller" Both Admin accounts and the regular account listed are read/execute only for this file.

Ok I was able to rename mscoree.dll to mscoreebak.dll. I figured out how to take ownership. But I still can't stop Windows Installer service. I can start it, but not stop it.

When I tried reinstalling OpenOffice it attempted to install Visual C++ 2008 redistibutible, got the same error code.

Then the same error code again when installing OpenOffice.

Visual C++ 2010 was able to install no problems.

Ok, no luck. I still at an impass. I disabled all my security stuff. Ran the cleaners like you said to do. Renamed the file. Stopped the Windows Installer(incidentally it just started back up by itself again when I tried installing anything). Installed Visual C++ 2010.
    Attempted to install OpenOffice.

    Same results.

Oh yeah, on the windows update it wanted me to install .net 4. I allowed it to.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the help.

Still can't seem to get my issue resolved.

It seems that the programs will actually install but right at the last step in the installation where it imbeds the program info somewhere, it errors out and rolls back the installation.

Here's something interesting. I attempted to install OpenOffice again. Again with the same error. This time however I didn't click the ok and let it roll back the installation. As long as I leave the error up I can actually use OpenOffice.

Ok, not sure what happened, but OpenOffice is now installed. I tried installing .net 2.0. This failed as it's already installed in Win 7. I then tried to install 1.1 but it isn't compatible. I then went to C:/Windows/System32 and ran sfc.exe. Right Click and run as administrator. I'm not sure exactly what happened or what fixed it, but it's now installed.

Should I rename the mscoreebak.dll back to mscoree.dll?

Tiger, you've done so well on your own with this bug, you choose ;)

I'd rename it back to original (if I remembered after going through this rigmarole) but maybe you should wait to ensure all your updates install correctly now?

Ok here's what I've gleaned from dealing with the 1935 error in Windows 7.

Some people had to disable their security software ie. firewalls, A/V etc. while they did the installation. Be sure to restart them once your done.

    1. In C:/Windows/System32 rename the file mscoree.dll to mscoreebak.dll. You will probably have to take ownership of the file and grant yourself permissions. This requires you to be on an administrator account. The steps to do this can be found here http://www.blogsdna.com/2159/how-to...sions-to-access-files-folder-in-windows-7.htm

    2. After you rename the file scroll down and find sfc.exe. Right click and run as administrator.

    3. You should be able to install your program at this time.

If you still can't install, remove any .net listings in the add/remove programs app in control panel. Then run this .net cleaner http://majorgeeks.com/.NET_Framework_Cleanup_Tool_d6179.html

You may need to run sfc as an administrator again. You may also need to restart. It seems situations vary from computer to computer.

Once you have your program installed you will need to go back and rename mscoreebak.dll back to mscoree.dll and run sfc as an administrator again.

If you don't do this other software won't install such as games and other stuff. I couldn't install several games or curse client until I renamed the file and ran sfc again.

I'm not sure why but it seems proffessional and productivty software suites such as MS Office and OpenOffice and multiple others won't install normally, while common software will.
