Can't Install New Windows XP because...

PCI.sys error on the Blue Screen of Death!

The guy who designed my computer installed a pirated version of Windows XP. I didn't feel comfortable giving him my legit copy for fear of him coping it and giving it out. So I figured I'll reformat and update it with my new one.

Couldn't reformat because before I get to the part that says Hit F8 if you agree to the terms I get this:

Here's what it says:

I've done a Ram check - Fine
I've upgraded my Bios - done
I've pulled all the pci slots out - done

I've got two - 250gig hard drives and am trying to load Windows XP on the 1st one. PLEASE... I'm running out of ideas.

Suggestions on stuff I can do or something I can look into in my computer? (it's pretty new)

 

Do you have a PCI Express video card? Is the WinXP CD you are trying to install SP2?

 

Is this xp home or xp pro, if pro 32bit or 64 bit.

How many "sticks" of ram is in the system? If more than one, try 2.

Just noticed the PCI.sys error.


Try going into the bios, and turning off raid, yes, I know you are not raiding the two hdd.

Also, if using sata: Within the bios, check to see if the sata is set for raid, or IDE/BASE.

 

Easiest way if you have the same version of XP is to just use a product key changer.
