Can't install Service Pack 2 for Vista

I keep on getting this error message (see image).

I've ran extensive tests on the machine and removed it of all viruses and spyware to the point where all scans come back clean. I've attempted on installing the service pack with all protection disabled (aside from windows firewall) and even am using the stand-alone SP2 download and not attempting it through windows update.

OS is Vista Basic.

 

Sorry to hear. I am having a similar issue with installing sp2 for vista. Was anyone able to help you with this yet?

Meanwhile, have you tried booting into Safe Mode with Networking (press the F8 key repeatedly while booting the machine to get into the Windows load options) and installing the Service Pack within Safe Mode?
