I posted in the Malware Removal Forum, but it was suggest that I posted here as well sine the malware has been removed from the computer, but there are still issues.

One thing I'd like to add is that it was suggested that I put combofix on my desktop instead of in a folder. However, it is on my desktop. The location of my desktop is in a folder named desktop which is a sub folder of another folder named desktop. I'm not sure why it is this way. Does that need to be changed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As long as the onscreen shortcut points to X:\Desktop\Desktop it shouldn't make much difference, but you could always tidy it up by moving files into the main folder and deleting the superfluous sub-folder.

Just to update my situation, I found that Comcast Antispyware was running and was the cause of the normal use slow down. I uninstalled it.

I'm still having problems with a long boot time and installing updates. However, all of the updates, I now realize, are for Microsoft Office.

...and they are usually mega bloated rolleyes. If you aren't using Office for a particular reason try OpenOffice or one of the other free office suites.

This computer isn't mine, so Office will, unfortuantely, need to stay.

I noticed that there are 16 instances of svchost running. I know that it isn't unusual to have several of these, but that still seems a lot. Also, occasionally one of them will start using 50% of the system resrouces, which seems excessive.

I ended up uninstalling Office after all. However, windows updates still wants to install a bunch of updates for it. Obviously I can just not install them, but I'm worried that it's a sign of some other issue. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
