Can't install Windows Xp, Help!

I am trying to install XP on a P4 2.4 Mhz. But installation hangs. I tried to install Win Me, it goes OK. I want to mention that there was XP installed on this computer, but after a time he wont't boot. Xp hangs after installation of driver in windows\sytem32\drivers\mup.sys
Help please

Try cleaning your XP CD

Put your HD to slave in another computer then run a diagnostic through as this sounds like a sympton of a dodgy Hard Drive, even though it was ok before there is a start point when it can start to fail.

I don't want to sound like a broken record (see previous post)

Sounds like a problem I am/was having. I tried to upgrade a CPU after flashing the BIOS the mobo could support a faster processor. So while I was at it I tested several processors.. eventually the system would not boot, it froze. On with the troubleshooting.. eventually I got it down to ACPI. Every time I was trying to load XP it would freeze at "starting windows.." so I did the 'f7' bypass on ACPI and the system loaded and runs fine.
I am going to tweak the ACPI and try reloading, now it just bugs me that ACPI is not installed and I get that "It is now safe to turn off your computer" screen.

That was the error when my PC stopped booting it would get to mup.sys and freeze - yet the hardware had no issue with Win98 loading.....
