I was blowing dust out of inside of my computer and 2 wires have come loose from their componants.
One says ATI on it and is red, the outher has a USB sign on it and is black.
I have a Compaq Presario desktop with a 9-n-1 built in card reader. It has 2 usb ports and other camera card readers and such. None of them work, including my cd player. My cd and video burner work fine.
Can anyone tell me where these wires attatch?
I know this was a stupid thing I did but Compacq told me to take to a computer repair center. I cannot afford a repair bill when all I need is to plug 2 wires back in. Everything worked fine until I deceided to do some dust cleaning.
    Please help if anyone can:cry

hello littlepistol, Welcome to Major Geeks.

Wire have two ends. Where are the other ends connected?

Are these separate from each other?

So both wires are still attached to the motherboard but have come loose from another component?

If that's the case, I think somebody would have to be psychic to answer your question. There are too many variations and possible combinations inside a computer case to be sure of any answer -- unless you can find somebody who is familiar with your model of the Compaq Presario and the devices you have installed are all stock equipment for the Presario.

If you can find a motherboard layout diagram for your system on Compaq's website, it might tell you enough to know which device is likely to be missing a needed connection.

But then, you've already told us that your card reader and CD player aren't working. Well, that's the first place to look for a place to hook up those wires.

Manuals for devices of that kind usually include connection instructions. Have you got the manuals for those devices? If you haven't, the manuals are probably available on the device manufacturer's website.

    Welcome, Litlepistol

It would be helpful to know what the model number of your Compaq Presario is, so folks here can do better research into your quandry.

A good description of what kind of wires you are talking about would also be helpful. There are many types of wires, plugs, and cables in every PC, and each type has a specific purpose which would help narrow down where they belong. What do the wires look like? :)

    Welcome to MG!

My model is a presario sr1222Nx Maybre I am calling them the wrong name.
I think they are "cable" like the USB kind you use to plug into a camera to transfer stuff to computer. The ATI one is red with a black end that has an ATI stamped on it. They are on the inside of my computer and the other end is plugged into the computer board. As you look at the inside they are on the very bottom right. Maybe I can take a picture and send it in posting?
I am trying to find a diagram of the inside of my computer but Compaq says they do not have one.
I think they might go to my 9-n-1 card reader but am not sure.
Hope this helps someone to help me. Any is greatly appreaciated dearly.

Just an idea, maybe not a good one, but I've been known to do it as documentation for my home built units. Do you have a digital camera, and more importantly, do you have a location to share photos?

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
