Can't open Adobe Acrobat

Greetings, i have downloaded Adobe Acrobat four times now from various sites - the latest being the lite version from this one (and it takes ages because i am on dial up), and i just cannot open it. This time it says unspecified error - cannot remember what the others said.
I am on Windows XP on an HP laptop that i have just recently purchased; any suggestions gratefully accepted

No, i only downloaded adobe because i used that on my last comp.
I should be more specific here and say that after downloading adobe it will not install on my comp.

But anyway, i will try the foxit you suggested; thanks very much for that and taking the time to help - much appreciated

Novice, it doesn't work for Vista?

 

I am constant user of Foxit Reader as well, but have read somewhere on the internet, that it has troubles with opening some specific PDF's with animation and other extensions. For most cases it eorks well though, great piece of software.
