cant open explorer links - verry bad

I think after last windows update, i cant open the links from explorer (i mean explorer= my computer, not internet explorer)

for example if i go in My computer D:\Documents and Settings\user\Favorites\
there in favorites i have thousand links. If i click one, the webrowser didnt open like before with that page, nothing happen.
Is a tragedy, i have thousands links saved in favorites and ill be a pain to open them from now...

I used Total commander instead windows explorer, there too problem if i click a internet link, is a message File not found! Used too xplorer2, same problems.

Is a way to repair explorer or to reinstall internet explorer 8? i have xp home

or how i fix the problem? is safe to undo to a registry backup from 2 months ago? or some programs can fail?

You can go to Internet Options , Advanced tab, and click reset Internet Explorer, instead of uninstalling it.
