A few days ago when I restarted my desktop Windows XP computer, I noticed Windows was doing a huge update to my surprise when I restarted it. I believe it was a legit update too. None the less after I restarted my computer I was unable to get back on the internet. I tried everything I could think of and after everything failed I decided to do a system restore. And it worked and I was able to get back on the internet. My Google Chrome and Internet Explorer were working fine. But when I tried using my Mozilla Firefox, and left clicked on it, it would not open. I tried looking on my Windows firewall to see if that was the problem and couldn't find any problems with it. Although I have an Avast firewall too and had problems finding Mozilla Firefox on it. Although I'm not even sure if my firewall is the problem. Right now I'm thinking about downloading a new Firefox or is there something else I can possibly do? By the way, I question the need for 2 firewalls too,. rolleyes

Could you post what service pack you are running? Using Windows Explorer, right click on My Computer (or wherever you see a My Computer folder icon) and select "Properties". On the menu it should say which service pack you have installed.

Sounds like it might be one of those situations where your network driver isn't compatible with a service pack update or some other Windows update. It's usually better to have the service pack/update I believe and then try to find the driver, but, when it's the network driver. since you can't get on the net without the driver, that's obviously not an option.

It would be best if you can get those updates which I have a feeling didn't survive your System Restore. I recommend visiting the manufacturer's site to see if there is a newer driver for your network card. If so, download it but wait to install it. Check the Windows updates using the Help client or using IE8 and see if you can get up to date. If you don't have SP3, make sure you get it and install it, too. SP3 was a major upgrade to XP I have found. Finally, install the driver. If it doesn't work, you can always go into Device Manager and roll back the driver there. Then you can find a working driver elsewhere if necessary, but I don't think you would need to find one. Manufacturer's drivers seem to work usually...

Jumping in here buddy, Data Banks, I just had the same thing happen to my Firefox when it just updated to 26.0, I uninstalled it using this- Revo Uninstaller (Link below,) , then reinstalled the newest version. As for 2 firewalls, pick one and turn the other off, I just use Windows firewall but it's your preference to pick which one you prefer.

Thanks, everybody :cool I followed your game plan Nick. I already had a Revo Unistaller downloaded on my PC which made it easier. I'm glad that when I downloaded a new Firefox that it came equipped with all my previous bookmarks and all the customized icons I used on my last Firefox too. I was afraid I was going to lose those with the new browser.
