Can't Open My Documents

I recently ruined my laptop and have just recieved a new one from the insurance people and have the old HD which i have put in an external caddy. the problem is that My Documents on my old HD are access denied, and i need to copy them over to my new documents.

i have tried the obvious which was to create a dummy account with the same details but to no avail.

as i know the password is there a program which will allow me to decrypt it and get my files back.

Thanks for the help, you guys always come thru.

the folder is from Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. And it was on a Sony Vaio and the new laptop is also a vai if that is any help.

Are the files encrypted.. did you use file encryption or do you just get a popup windows telling you that access is denied?

if so and as the old files would have been under your old user and access rights you will have to take ownership of that folder to gain access to copy etc

thank you so much, yeah it was just saying access denied.

thanks for the link, i did try searching for it but i wasnt sure what to put as my search string.
