i get this error when i try to open the folder mydocuments/myvideos in XP home
the foler contains just normal movies and vids ive downloaded
other simptoms are that the screen goes blank apart from background image for 2 seconds and then refreshes without 2 items in the bottom right of taskbar, these are Nvidia controler and spybot registry controler. Very strange. i definatly didnt do anything to start this, only changes that might have affected are deleation of a number of large torrent download files and instalation of world of warcraft game and patches. :(

    AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.3156 ModName: xfcodec.dll
    ModVer: 1.0.0.29580 Offset: 00005df2

if anyone can help i would be most greatfull, thanks geeks! x

Sounds like you have codec clash in that folder do you have a lot of different format vids in it this happens when you have 2 or more players intalled fighting over the file you need default player and the rest can be opened from the prgram itself failing this get XP Repair it might solve the file path directory.
Let me know how it goes!

You dont use XP to repair its a repair program called XP REPAIR PRO now i have it you may find a freeware version but i use it its good typ it in google see what you can find or if you cant find that then try disabling the file associations in W.M.P !

Usually when opening a whole folder with videos cause a crash it means that either Divx or Xvid codec became corrupted. Just trying to access a folder with avi files will cause the crash and the windows explorer crashing also causes some icons to go away in the task bar. 95% of the time its the Xvid codec, download the latest Koepi's xvid codec by googling it, uninstall any Xvid references you can find in the add/remove programs section (including any codec packs you installed) and install the new one. Don't use codec packs, just install the specific codecs you need as you need them, its the most logical and safest way to go.

I will have to agree with Appzalien there it does sound like a classic codec problem i have had all sort of problems with xvid divx codec packs your best to uninstall all of them and evry time you open a vid that needs one is to install the one you need untill you find the one that clashes or get an a in 1 pack.

Get a program called sherlock 2.0 its a codec detction program its tiny and free it will tell you what you need and do not if you cant find it then i don`t mind aemailing it to you it is aprox 80kb.

    Good luck !!
