can't open videos in e-mail or from computer

I'm at my father in laws computer (Gateway, Windows 98, uses Netscape, but can use IE also -- I had to use IE to get here because everytime I hit "post new thread" using Netscape Browser on this page, Netscape shut-down -- this happened 5 times in a row over the course of 30 minutes)

If you have an answer to that please let me know.

BUT I'm here because when I e-mail them a video and they click on it nothing happens. What do I look for in their e-mail or on the computer itself? I've been looking at things all day and can't figure it out.

A CD-Rom of a game will start up automatically if you put it in the drive. I can bring up pictures one by one if I "start/explore" and open up something like, Quick Time and then find the D: Drive. I can't get REAL ONE, Windows Media Player (though they have some OLD version) or Quick Time to play videos.

If you put in a CD-Rom of videos ( I mean .avi or .wmv files, from a digital camera) And they play on my computer and dvd at home so I know it's ok - there's no "autostart" though.

What am I missing?

 

hey peg The new IrfanView plays a lot of the newer type movie files as well as some old ones. Might be worth a try.

I loaded Irfanview and ALL the plug ins. I've opened the program and from D:/ drive I can view pics and videos

BUT from e-mail if I click on a video Media Player pops up and nothing happens. I can't get a video to play from Netscape Communicator 4.06 (that's their e-mail program). I've looked at settings. For attachments you can open "inline" or "as a link" but that doesn't matter.

any netscape users that can tell me what I'm still missing?
