    I can't open new windows when I click on a link. For example, I want to 'view as slideshow" at Shutterfly.com, but when I click on that (or even the picture itself) nothing happens and I see that the function is blocked. I have XP and it started to do this with the SP2, i believe. I went to the bottom of the web page frame where is has the icon for "restricted sites" and I checked "allow pop-ups for this site", but still no go. I even added it to "trusted sites" but still nothing. What can I do? This happens in both IE and Firefox, so I can only assume that it's the XP security. Thanks so much. I'm looking forward to viewing some holiday pics! Stephanie

    There is usually a small bar at the top of the screen that tells you that something has been blocked. Click on it, and it should give you the option to download the file, pictures, etc. :)

    Try This,

    1)Open Control Panel

    2)Open Internet Properties

    3)Click the Security Tab

    4)For Internet, Local intranet, Trusted sites, Restricted sites default all settings.

    5)Now Click the privacy tab

    6)Make sure the box is checked next to "Block pop-ups"

    7)Click settings (under pop-up blocker)

    8)Make sure its set on (Medium: Block most automatic pop-ups)

    9)Click close, Apply, Ok

    10)Try Again to see if it works, if not select "Low: Allow pop-ups from secure sites" and then try again, if it still doesnt work then add the website your having pop-up problems from to the allowed sites list.

    Let Me Know, Thanks

    So I did all of this. First you should know that I don't have that bar that Novice talked about. i know that it exists and I've seen it before on other computers, but it's not on this one. I did what is quoted below and I still nothing. When I click on a picture (to enlarge it) I see a "Javascript:void" in the bottom left corner. When I click on "View as album" I get "transferring data from Shutterfly" but it just stays that way and nothing happens. I even added www.shutterfly.com to the trusted websites and nothing. What else could be the problem?

    If you have IE6, below may work?

    Start-->Run-->regsvr32 urlmon.dll
    Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
    Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Msjava.dll
    Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
    Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
    Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
    Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Browseui.dll
    Start-->Run-->regsvr32 Shell32.dll

    Reboot unecessary...

    Did all of this and still no go. I still get the same "javascript void:0" and "tranferring data" and nothing happens. I'm using OE6 and FIrefox and can't figure it out on either. Any other takers?? I'm desperate. Stephanie

    Try holding down the SHIFT key before clicking on the link, if that little workaround yileds no seccess then try updating/re-installing Java from www.sun.com

    your Java, it is strange that you couldn't get it to work with Firefox either....hmm, do you have any kind of security/spyware/pop-up blocker type programs installed?

    Hey Turcoloco,
    THe Shift Key doesn't work...already tried that combo as well as some others. I only have Adblock on the Firefox and I have Zone Alarm for my firewall. I have NA - but only for anti-virus, I turned off the firewall..as well as XP's.

    Can you please tell me which Java I have to install/update from sun.com? WHen I go there, there's a huge list of them and I don't know which to download. I'm leaning towards Java Plug-in....is that correct? Anyone?

    Thanks again, Stephanie

    have you tried holding the "Ctrl" key? this normally allows the popups if you have a popup blocker (like Yahoo popup blocker, etc.). - sosaman

    Yes, I have. It opens the same page in a new window rather than opening the Slideshow or Larger picture. :(

    If the link was meant to open initiated by a Javascript then missing Java files could be the cause and here is the link, choose the one next to the Operating System (Windows/Linux) you are using: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

    But if the link was meant to pop open a new window then try disabling ADBlock, it could be the culprit...
