I'm trying to paste some jpg files from my desktop to a pictures folder and cannot I keep on receiving an error message -

"Destination folder access denied . You need permission to perform this action"

If I attempt to paste the same jpg's in any another folder on my PC there is no problem with doing so

This problem suddenly started about a week ago and I never had the problem in the past

Could someone pls help to solve this annoying problem

    Thanks for your help

Curious......can you open the picture folder and slide the image into the folder?

Right click the folder and select properties. Then click on the Security tab.
In the top window titled Group or User name, scroll down and highlight your username.
You should have Write permission checked/ticked under allow.

You may need to first click on 'Run as Admin.'

Where can I find that menu option
When I right click on the folder?

The Pictures folder, along with Documents, Music and a few others, is one of the special folders that comprise your user profile and its permissions should be solid black, not greyed out. Can you do the same check on your Documents folder please? They should be solid black. Can you also confirm that your user account is an Admin account?

Thanks for your help.......The Docs and Music folders are solid black
I checked and am still administrator
Any idea what may be causing this problem?

Not atm but I'm hopeful we will be able to change it back. First we need to dig a little deeper so on the folder's Security tab click Advanced. Your username should be in the centre panel - what does it have in the Type and Inherited From columns? A pic would be good.

Thank you. On your Pictures folder click Disable Inheritance. Hopefully that will fix it.

EDIT - you may need to Log off and Log on again for this to take effect

If you still want this resolved we will need some feedback.

Thanks for your message Earthling. I would like to be able to paste pictures in my Pictures folder, but I thought we had exhausted the possibilities of fixing the problem. I really appreciate your efforts to help me. Is there anything else we could try to solve this strange problem.

After studying the two pics you have posted I am seeing too much evidence of inconsistency in your permissions to continue trying to fix it remotely, sorry. The only suggestion I can make is to run Tweaking.com System Repair which has a Permissions feature. It may or may not help but won't cause problems. It's best run in Safe Mode.

I studied your screenshots. The pictures folder is a shortcut link on your desktop located somewhere on C. (that's what the lnk at the end indicates) Shortcuts get corrupted. Perhaps the shortcut is bad.
The Documents folder is the folder, no shortcut here, and its location is on D, not C.

Did you move Pictures and Documents from C to D?
(I'm trying to figure out why the working documents folder is on a different drive or partition than the non-working one).

They have different Owners too - Docs is owned by SYSTEM, which is wrong but it works, Pics shortcut is owned by Jim, which is right but doesn't work. Bit of a mess.
