    Hey Folks

Have a weird situation...I can't seem to access my router! It's a D-link, and my internet is working fine, but whenever I try to access the router through 198.162.0.1, it times out. I tried 198.162.1.1 as well, and it requests a password I haven't entered into my router (different from the one I used to set up my internet).
I tried running ipconfig from the command prompt to see if it was another address, but got a string of lines saying it kept "disconnecting".

    Any thoughts?

It would be helpful if you posted the DLink model number for your router, but all routers have default passwords set, ALL of 'em. So you'll need to enter a user name and a password to log in to the router to change any of the internal settings and for general configuration like setting a WPA/WEP password. A few routers use just a password and no user name, but not many. First, look at the back of the router for a small hole/button, it is usually labeled "RESET" but not always. You'll probably need a straightened out paper clip or something similar to push it in; hold it in for a slow 20 count (or 15-20 seconds). After you release the button, wait another 30-60 seconds before trying to log in to the router. Many router manufacturers use admin as both the default user name and password, sometimes with an upper-case A. If the 'admin' password doesn't work, some manufacturer's use password as the default login password, or no password, just leave it blank. So, if these tips don't help, please post the model of router and we'll try to do more for you.

Here you go: D-Link default passwords. Took me less than five seconds to find with Google, which by the way is why you want to change it as soon as you have hooked up your router.

    Hi everyone

So apparently the IP address of my router was 198.162.0.119...found it by going into network settings. Not sure why it changed...before it was always 198.162.0.1, but maybe a recent firmware update changed it? In any event, I'm able to get into it now...and my saved password and username were still valid. Thanks for all your help!
