i followed the second method u listed. The first i was unsure of.When i tried to merge/add to the registry the *fixme.reg* file, all i got was a prompt saying- cannot import. The specified file is not a registry script.you can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

The problem still persits.Furthermore, i am afraid of losing all my data for i have no backup. Please help.

Okay! Try this again, be sure you copy everything in the qoute box.

Copy the contents of the below Quote Box to Notepad. Then click File and then Save As. Change the Save as Type to All Files. Name the file fixme.reg and then click save. (make sure you save it somewhere you can find it. Saving it to your Desktop may make that easy.) Then double-click on the fixme.reg file on your desktop (or locate it with Windows Explorer and double click on it if not saved to the Desktop) and when it prompts to Add in to the registry, say yes.

Try removing the device from the device manager, reboot the PC and allow Windows to re-install drivers for the drive(s). Then put in a disc and see if it works....

That just re-eunmerates it. It doesnt really reinstall anything.

Doesn't hurt to try, of course.

windows media player and intervideo won't play if you don't have the correct codecs for the DVD.
There are two open source players that seem to work for most people if the other players refuse to play anything. The players are
    VLC
    Code:
    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
    and
    kmplayer http://majorgeeks.com/KMPlayer_d5484.html
