    Please help!

I'm trying to do a XP re-install and when I come to the Setup screen I press ENTER to setup Windows XP, I then press F8 to agree, I immediately get a blue screen that says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to computer REGISTRY ERROR"

How do I get around this? I want to re-install Windows XP but this is as far as I can get.

Thanks to all replies in advance

Is this just a repair install you are trying to do?

If not try formatting the disk before you attempt the install.

You reboot the computer after putting the CD/DVD into the optical drive? In the BIOS the computer needs to be set to boot from the optical (CD/DVD) drive first, else it will just keep booting the installed system from the hard drive, or from floppy, network, etc. If all else fails try a Linux Live CD, most have a partition, disk manager to wipe the drive for you before Windows gets its tentacles on it. www.tweakhound.com has a good Windows XP installation guide. http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/installxp/installXP1.htm If at first you don't succeed.....
