    Hi.
I run the free version of Avast on my old computer, which I still do a lot of my work on since it has xp prof. I've had a larger hard drive and more memory put in over the years, but am not going to do anymore, just go to the newer one for some things, this for others.
The problem is that I have to uninstall Avast and reinstall from its site every 30 days. This is because I cannot register it. It keeps prompting me to register, I keep trying, and always get a message saying the content isn't available. Have repeatedly called their customer support. The results of that: explained to agent as I did here. He said, "that's weird". That was the extent of that call.
Called several times and calls were dropped after I explained, or a few attempts were made to help and then calls were 'dropped'. In other tries, no help was offered and I was immediately told that I would have to purchase some kind of tune up program from them, that that was all that could help me.
Avast is lite enough to not slow my computer. When I tried to use MB, the computer was almost nonfunctional. If someone has a suggestion as to why I can't register, please tell me. Its my understanding that constantly installing and uninstalling a program isn't good for my old guy.
    Thanks,
    alterintel

If you pull the XP computer off the internet, as we did to my husband's XP, you can still do work on it and use the programs. (He uses his WordPerfect Suite and prints 1300 labels about 3 times a year).
Ant files you need can be put on a stick from the internet connected newer OS and taken to the XP computer.

You can then remove av from the computer. It no longer needs it.

I've removed the security programs from his XP and Windows 2K computers since neither can go on the internet. (I think I can finally talk him into letting me e-cycle his Win 2K computer!)

Nick, I just went to that Avast site. None of the Avast techs referred me to that. I will try it and see if it works.
So how much space does Panda take on your computer?

    Plodr,
I do understand where your husband is coming from. [lol]

I want to continue using my old computer on the internet.

Plodr, can you tell me how to transfer my million bookmarks onto my newer computer? My browser is Firefox, the newer but less loved AI uses windows 7 and Firefox, always.

I should of mentioned these are H-Keys they go right to the registry
Install the Posready first then the XP-Security last.

A cmd prompt will pop up for a brief second, that's how you know that they installed.

After installed check for updates. There should be a lot of them.

I no longer use Firefox. When I did, i saved the bookmarks from time to time to an html file. (on a floppy but later on a USB stick)
I then import the html file to any other computer, after first removing any bookmarks that might be there.

Hey alterintel, Panda takes up around 125 mb in size and uses about 35 mb memory, without any slowdown, so far.

    Nick,
MB was something like 59 MBs and slowed me down, so Panda would probably destroy us. But I thank you for the suggestion. My old computer is really old. Have you seen the ad where the burglers steal everything but the computer and crt? Well, that's what mine look like. My other is this black high tech thing with an lcd display wide screen that causes me such eye strain that I can only use it for a few minutes. Did post about that long time ago but didn't get much input. Tried all the helps and adjustments to no avail. Much less eyestrain with the crt for some reason.
