can't run regedit

When ever I try to run regedit, I get a message saying "registry editing has been disabled by the administrator." I am the primary user of this computer and there is no administrator. How do I renable regedit?

 

All Windows 2k/XP systems have an Administrator account. It must exist and it cannot be deleted (although I suppose it could be hacked away). It can be renamed to a different account, but there must be an Administrator (only in Novell can you delete the admin account and accidentally lock yourself out of the system).

In any case, what OS do you have? XP Home or XP Pro/2k?

 

To get at the Administrator account, boot safe mode.

Download ITweakU and under Security there is an option to Enable/disable Regedit.

The fix is a simple registry change which seems paradoxical if you cannot use regedit to change it, but you can use a .reg file and merge this into the registry.

However, if you plan to manually change the registry back it up first using Erunt

 

Your problem can be solved running a addware or spyware removal software like addware or spybot.
