can't save registry edits?

I'm trying to get this out of my registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\eFax Messenger 3.5 Uninstall

I go into regedit and delete it, but it keeps coming back. What am I missing? Thanks in advance...

 

You probably still have the efax software installed, which is replacing the entry each time.

 

You may need to disable the Restore software when doing registry edits - that can make unwanted things come back to haunt you. Remember, when the Restore program is disabled, usually most old restore points are also gone. So as soon as your edit is done and you are comfortable that things are working correctly, re-enable the Restore software and create a new restore point.

Unless system restore is being used after the edit is being performed, it is not causing the problem. There is no way it can. System Restore is an all or nothing application. When it restores, it replaces all five registry hives, not part of them.

I only give this correction because IMO, I would never disable System Restore unless I had a spyware/virus problem.

All to often, I wish my Mac had System Restore. Its a handy feature when you mess up. However, if you disable it, you destroy ALL of your backups created by System Restore.
