can't save text typed on website to hard drive

there is a text box for typing notes as you listen to the speaker. there is a "save" icon which then saves the notes you just finished typing to the downloads folder in "my documents". only problem is when you open the file your notes contain a bunch of computer jibberish - some of the jibberish looked like:
<html><head><title><RadioPlayer Notes>/title . . .etc

i'd like to save the notes to my HD without all the jibb.
any way to do this ? ?

Can't you just use Notepad?

DUH ! ! DUH ! !
notepad or wordpad works just fine. MANY THANKS -- now i'll try to rationalize my stupidity. first website i've ever seen with it's own little text box for taking notes - but when i tried saving the notes to my HD -- i have all the jibbirish. for some reason my mindset was "the text box is there, you must use it". i knew about notepad but for some stupid reason all i could see was that neat little box.

all that said, i'd still like to know why i couldn't save my notes and open them without all the jibberish -- especially when i can go to my other 3 computers (one is a mac) and open my notes without the jibb. anyway, sometimes you can't "see the trees for the forrest.
