I have new pc with win7, and have tried to connect a 320GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 HDD using caddy, thru USB, so that I can copy old files from it.
An older 80GB Maxtor DiamondMax lus 9 ATA/133 HDD connects, with jumper at cable select.
The Seagate, using same jumper settings, audibly connects, and shows up in disk management as "Dynamic" and "Invalid" below, and doesn't assign a letter.
I haver tried other jumper settings with same result.

    Any ideas?

I don't know what caused the disc to be seen as dynamic and or invalid but there seems to be a fix of changing it back to a Basic disk.

Now, you can't use disk management to do it because that method formats the disc destroying all data.

I see two methods for keeping data safe.

    1) Using TestDisk http://mypkb.wordpress.com/2007/03/28/how-to-non-destructively-convert-dynamic-disks-to-basic-disks/

    2) Using a Hex Editor http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=191006

If you use the hex editor method the trick will be finding the correct disk connected to your computer. It should show as a removable disk which should make it straight froward.

As far as I can tell either method will work. I've navigated both programs so if you have any questions--ask away.
