Hi, I recently done a clean install of XP on a friends Toshiba Equim M50-164 PSM57E laptop using instructions from this link.

    http://www.easydesksoftware.com/I386.htm

I am now having extreme difficulty setting up the wifi internet connection, no wireless icon is appearing in the bottom right of screen. I tried downloading Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter 7.7.0.406.2 onto an external drive then transferring it to the Toshiba laptop but still it will not work.

Please help as my friend is extremely angry and I am now at a loss what to do.

    Thanks in advance.

What network adapters show up in the device list in the control panel?

What it listed under under my network connections > view network connections?

This issue has cropped up several times recently with a few different solutions, have you looked through the threads on this board? What have you tried besides the driver?

In Device Manager under Network Adapters only 1394 Net Adapter appears.

In Network Connections > Broadband Connection,Disconnected, Firerwalled, WAN Miniport

also 1394 Connection, Connected, Firewalled, 1394 Net Adapter.

Tried to create new connection a few times but just going round in circles.

Tried Wireless Network Setup Wizard as well.

and if you connect with an ethernet cable, does the ethernet port work?

The ethernet cable does not work either.

It looks like the Atheros drivers aren't installing properly/aren't showing up in device manager.

    Hello,
See if installing the chipset utility will help. Do this first and then install the LAN driver. This will be for your ethernet port, not your wireless.

    LAN driver.

As a reference all of your XP drivers are located here.

    Your laptop specifications are here.
