cant shutdown.

Hi everyone, im a newbie to this forum and this site.
My first post is maybe a simple 1 for most of you but its annoying me !

Can anyone tell me how i can solve the problem of my pc not reatarting or shutting down when i click on the reletive icons.?

I have tried all different routes and none are successfull.

The only thing that i have installed is SPLINTER CELL game (original) and since then i have noticed this problem.

I have uninstalled the game but to no effect.


Ant help would be invauble as i dont want to have to re-install xp again, as i haveit just how i like it now.

is this in the start menu or what? Can you log off?

also thanks to GOLDFISH for your reply, i had tried everything but to no avail..

Simple when you know the answer eh!
